The Top 10 Reasons why YOU should be a CIT at MIT Day Camp this summer!
Director of CIT Program at MIT Day Camp
1. A Proven Program taught by an Experienced Educator
In my 16 years at MIT Day Camp, my favorite part of the job has always been training the next generation of exemplary counselors, whether it's through seminar discussions or staff simulations. Our program has produced dozens of young leaders who are well-equipped to handle all sorts of challenges. Speaking of which...
2. Preparation for College and Beyond
How to manage a work schedule. How to mediate arguments. How to speak with adults. We constantly develop and refine skills you'll need for college (and life), and we'd be glad to provide a recommendation letter to help you get into your desired school/job.
3. Competitive Salary and Flexible Work Weeks
Counselors can work anywhere between 2 to 8 weeks each summer, and are compensated with excellent pay (up to $4800). All returning staff also receive generous salary raises; if you are a talented counselor, we (and your campers) want you to stick around!
4. Food Perks Every Session
Every session, staff are treated to catering, including BBQ, pizza, and ice cream sundaes. We also provide vegan and gluten-free options.
5. Official MIT Camp Merch
All CITs receive multiple STAFF shirts (with a different design every summer) as well as an MIT Camp drawstring backpack. Wear your camp gear proudly!
6. World Class Facilities
All CITs and counselors have access to MIT's sports facilities, from pristine grass fields to fully-equipped gyms. Bad weather won't stop us from having fun either - we've got indoor tracks, lots of basketball courts, air-conditioned dance studios and more.
7. New Activities at Your Fingertips
If you've never tried Tsegball, played Castles and Dragons, or gone sailing on the Charles, give them a try! You just might find a new favorite game with your campers.
8. Bring Your Talents to the Table
Do you have a swimming background? Give our campers a hand during their lessons in our Olympic-sized pool! Just finished an audiovisual elective at your school? Help run the lights and soundboard at our end-of-session skit show at the Kriesge auditorium in front of a huge crowd! We offer many opportunities for you to put your strengths to good use.
9. A Super Convenient Location
The camp is just a 2 minute walk from the MIT Student Center and its fluffy chairs (which you can use during your breaks). The Center houses a terrific food court, including Anna's Tacqueria, Subway, Dunkin Donuts, LaVerde's, and an amazing teriyaki spot. And you are only a 5 minute walk away from other awesome restaurants like Flour and Oath Pizza.
10. Be Around Incredibly Talented Camp Staff and Awesome Campers
Nearly every counselor at MIT Camp has graduated from our CIT Program, and each offers a wealth of expertise and guidance as you learn the ropes. From Day 1, you will be paired with two of them, as well as a co-CIT. The four of you will be in charge of leading an age group of your choice through a variety of activities. You'll handle group management, lead and take part in games with your campers, and create a ton of memorable moments that will make their summer - and yours - an unforgettable one.
